I think technology is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom. However, at what age is technology appropriate to use in the classroom? Are kindergarteners too young?
I believe we can start introducing technology immediately. I know 2 and 3 year-olds that know how to use an iPad, iPhone, etc. Technology is something they will need to know how to use, so we need to start teaching with it as soon as they come to the classroom!
I've seen babies work remote controls, so I don't think it's ever to early to start with technology. I expect that in the next 5-10 years we will all be wearing silver suits, eating food in pill form, and our cell phones will be implanted in our heads at birth. So why wait? These kids are going to have to figure out how to build a colony on Mars that we can all live on and they are going to need a lot of tech skills for that.
Both of my kids started playing on the computer when they were two. There are great interactive and educational sites for very small children and once they get the motor skills down, the sky's the limit.
I don't think kindergarten is too young. It may be the only exposure to technology that the child has. Additionally, anxiety about or frustration with technology seems to increase with age, so I don't think there is anything wrong with kindergartners using technology.
I don't think so, if they are able and if they are interested go for it!!
ReplyDeleteKindergarten is perfect. They can learn the basics of how to use the mouse and most important, how to log-on so they will be ready for 1st grade.
ReplyDeleteI remember using the computer when I was in Kindergarten. Just make sure you adjust your lessons to their level and I'm sure they would love it.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in my early years of school, there were no such things as computers. We did our work on rock slates which we pounded on with sharp objects.

ReplyDeleteit's important for kids to be exposed to dangerous things like fire, knives, guns, and computers from an early age
